Great photography happens when you show people something they haven't seen before. This can be something exotic and unfamiliar to the viewer, or a unique perspective on an often-photographed subject. When trying to capture distinctive images, you want gear that will give you maximum flexibility to react to the magic of the moment and that won't get in the way of your creative vision.
I recently had the pleasure of using the TAMRON 70-180mm F/2.8 Di III VC VXD G2 (Model A065) for Sony E-mount full-frame mirrorless cameras while exploring abroad and at home. I took the lens with me to Indonesia to photograph a range of landscape, travel, and wildlife subjects, and then I visited one of my favorite U.S. destinations, Badlands National Park. Although Indonesia and South Dakota are two very different places, one thing remained constant: my TAMRON 70-180mm F2.8 G2 allowed me to freely and effectively explore my imagination.
While in Indonesia, the 70-180mm F2.8 G2 was perfect for close encounters with wild orangutans and Komodo dragons. This lens was also excellent for travel photography, allowing me to quickly zoom in on the intimate details of daily life in Indonesia. The bright F2.8 maximum aperture made it easy to work in low light and to creatively blur my backgrounds, helping my subjects stand out from their surroundings. Responsive autofocus, advanced VC (Vibration Compensation) mechanism, and incredible optical sharpness ensured that my photos would stand out as well.
I also found the 70-180mm F2.8 G2 to be an ideal lens for intimate landscape photography. For example, while in Indonesia, this lens was perfect for dramatic portraits of the Bromo volcano complex. While in Badlands National Park, I was able to zoom in tight on claystone ridges, revealing colorful layers and bold patterns of alternating shadow and light.
The very close MOD (Minimum Object Distance) of 0.3m (11.8in) and an outstanding maximum magnification ratio of 1:2.6 at wide 70mm end were useful for close-up shots of flowers and other small details. I was able to easily magnify my small subjects and capture them with stunning detail and clarity.
I really appreciated the light weight and compact size of the lens. It's smaller than a more traditional 70-200mm F2.8 lens. I found I didn't really miss the final 20mm, and the savings in weight and size meant my 70-180mm F2.8 G2 was easy to carry around, ensuring I always had a short telephoto zoom in my camera bag at the ready for intimate photography opportunities.
As I said at the beginning, photography is all about seeing something new, something different, something that others overlook. TAMRON’s 70-180mm F2.8 G2 can facilitate this process of seeing the world in a different way. Its simple and elegant design has exactly what you need and nothing that you don't. The 70-180mm F2.8 G2 is a flexible and effective piece of photography gear that will allow you to easily explore your creative vision.
