Wonderful moments in Vietnam by Noriko Kukimoto with TAMRON 28-75mm F2.8 G2 (Model A063) for Nikon Z mount
Hello, I’m photographer Noriko Kukimoto. Personally speaking, the lens I most often take with me during regular travel is a zoom lens. In travel locations where you want to carry as little luggage as possible, it’s best to have a lens that lets you determine the focal length in a variety of situations intuitively, and a lens with a fast wide-open aperture is even better. Here I would like to describe the virtues of TAMRON 28-75mm F/2.8 Di III VXD G2 (Model A063) for Nikon Z mount, a lens that combines these two features, through the photos I took on a visit to Vietnam.
The first photo: Focal length:47mm Exposure:F2.8 1/4000sec ISO 100 Camera:Nikon Z 6II
Hạ Long Bay, which features an array of impressively shaped islands, is also known for its many uniquely shaped rock formations which take your breath away when viewed up close. I risked taking this shot at wide-open F2.8 aperture, but even when I enlarged the shot to actual size, the fine details were properly captured in the shot and I was impressed by the high resolving power.
Utilizing the close-up shooting possibilities allowed by the MOD (Minimum Object Distance) of 0.18m (7.1in) at the wide end, I was able to get close in on this colorful nón lá (Vietnamese conical hat). The level of detail is such that it conveys the careful mesh pattern and the sense of hand-applied paint on the leaves that make up the material.
I shot this lion figurine I discovered at a Bát Tràng pottery village at 75mm, the maximum focal length at the telephoto end, with the aperture stopped down one level to F4. The subject is enveloped in beautifully round bokeh with a large size that is distinctive of the telephoto end. The light that hits the figurine evokes a sense of transparency, and its eyes which appear to be made from glass, are particularly impressive.
An empty beer bottle that suddenly caught my attention as I was walking down a back street. The color of the glass bottle and the light hitting the opening were really beautiful, and with the heavy bokeh, it gives the impression of many floating halos. The brightness of the F2.8 maximum aperture comes in handy in dimly lit back streets.
The sun was lower in the sky and right in front of me, so I stopped down the aperture heavily to produce shafts of sunlight through the gaps in the trees. Rays of light can appear differently depending on the lens, but this lens produces beautiful rays, and even in backlit conditions shadows are properly rendered.
A cyclo is a kind of three-wheeled bicycle taxi where the seat is in front of the bicycle. Cyclos run through the city in all directions. I quickly snapped a shot of a cyclo that passed by right next to me, and I was able to get the shot by quickly focusing on the subject thanks to the VXD (Voice-coil eXtreme-torque Drive) linear motor focus mechanism, the high-speed, high-precision auto focus unit in the lens.
Tam Cốc, also known as the Inland Hạ Long Bay. It was about an hour before sunset when I took the shot from a spot looking down on the distinctive scene. The shot was semi-backlit diagonally in front to the left, but the contrast of soft evening light filtering through the gaps in the intricately shaped mountains and the shadows on the mountain faces were rendered beautifully.
After trying out this TAMRON 28-75mm F2.8 G2 on the trip, I was greatly impressed by its excellent rendering performance, from by the fine details to the large and beautiful bokeh. This lens has a focal length range that makes it easy to take the excitement of seeing something with the naked eye and express it faithfully in photographs, and also offers constant F2.8 aperture throughout the zoom range. These points leave no doubt that the lens will be useful in all kinds of situations and applications, from daily life to travel.
