TAMRON 11-20mm F2.8 (Model B060) for Sony E-mount x snap by Shawn Ogulu
Nature continuously astounds and inspires me, as a landscape/travel photographer my job is simply to arrive at the right time and capture what’s in front of me.
From being face to face with one of the most intimidating and magnificent animals (elephants) to being in the same environment as one of the most endangered and fragile animals (African Penguins), the TAMRON 11-20mm F2.8 Di III-A RXD (Model B060) was able to capture it all.
The world’s first F2.8 ultra wide-angle zoom lens for Sony APS-C mirrorless cameras is the perfect choice for landscape photography. The 11-20mm F2.8 is easily one of the first lenses that will go into my bag when packing for a photo trip.
During this past year, where the world seemed to have come to a standstill, at least travel wise, I’ve found photography to be one of the most positive forms of social distancing. As I travelled from one side of South Africa to the other, after lockdown regulations had lifted, I got to see just how beautiful this country I live in is. The diversity of environments along the coastal Garden Route to other-worldly mountain ranges in Cape Town and Mpumulanga highlighted the diverse features of this lens.
The 11-20mm F2.8 is the perfect fit for the Sony APS-C range, the lens takes full advantage of the Sony features and functions like autofocus, Eye AF. In terms of optics the 11-20mm F2.8 produces super sharp images with incredible detail, minimal distortion, great colour reproduction and great bokeh. The incredible Minimum Object Distance of 0.15m when shooting at 11mm and 0.24m at 20mm, when shooting at 11mm you can get super close to your subject and still get a lot of the background into the frame.
One of my favourite features of this lens has to be it’s compact and lightweight build, it gives you an easy choice when packing for a hike or trip. This along with TAMRON’s more affordable price point is why anyone from an amateur photographer to a professional will find the 11-20mm F2.8 to be one of their go-to lenses. I’ll continue to use this lens, as it truly is one of the best in its class.
The TAMRON 11-20mm F2.8 is an easy recommend for any APS-C shooters, at this price it’s going to be hard to find better value for money and above all produces fantastic images.
