TAMRON 70-300mm F4.5-6.3 (Mode A047) for Sony E-mount x kids portrait by Marcie Reif
For the last few weeks I have had the privilege of trying out Tamron’s new 70-300mm F/4.5-6.6 Di III RXD (Model A047) for Sony E-mount full-frame mirrorless cameras. Mounted on my Sony A9ii, this combo packs quite a punch for such a small and light setup. It consistently delivered crisp colors, sharp focus, and creamy bokeh, throughout the focal range in a variety of lighting conditions.
As a lifestyle children’s photographer that often photographs children playing and playing sports, I was really drawn to this focal length. I was immediately thinking of the possibilities that this lens would unlock for me, giving me a longer focal length range than I was used to having in my bag. I primarily shoot with a 70-200mm lens when shooting sports, but oftentimes I’m wishing I had a longer focal length. Once I started shooting with the 70-300mm I could instantly see how much I was going to love this long range. I could get close up shots of my son diving for a baseball that were not only sharp, but also filled the frame even though I was behind the fence shooting. It’s exceptionally strong in the 300mm focal length range and I can’t say I expected that. I am amazed at how sharp the images are even with the incredible distance I have to my subjects.
Much of my business and hobby photography revolves around creating portraits of children. I was so excited to try this lens out in my portrait business. It’s amazing and creates the most beautiful bokeh around my subjects. I especially love to shoot my portraits in the 85mm range, but loved being able to get a variety in my portraits with the zoom range this lens offered.
I love capturing the sunset and knew this lens would create beautiful images. It performed exceptionally well in low light conditions, capturing all of the colors the sky had to offer. Tamron 70-300mm F4.5-6.3 really performs above its price point. It will definitely be a permanent fixture in my bag from here out.
