The manufacturing process
Each Tamron SLR zoom lens is manufactured using as many as 250 components.
The fabrication of these components can be categorized as: 'lens processing' where elements are polished or molded and finally coated; 'injection molding' where plastic parts are formed using metal molds; and 'metal machining' where aluminum die-cast barrel components are lathed and milled.
In the assembly process, VC (vibration compensation) modules, AF drive mechanisms, and aperture modules are first assembled into units at sub-assembly lines.
At main assembly lines these units, together with groups of lens elements, are integrated into the lens barrel. Various inspections and adjustments are carried out at each stage of the process flow until assembly is complete.
